BC Egg Marketing Board Quota Distribution Policy

On July 21, 2009, the British Columbia Egg Marketing Board (BCEMB) submitted its Quota Distribution Policy for National and Provincial Allocations (Quota Distribution Policy) to the British Columbia Farm Industry Review Board (BCFIRB).  On July 23, 2009, the BCEMB also submitted its New Producer Program Rules to BCFIRB.  The BCEMB requires prior approval from BCFIRB before proceeding with the distributions of quota outlined in these documents.

BCFIRB invited and received a first round of submissions on the BCEMB proposals from industry stakeholders, and issued a follow up document with comments and questions to the BCEMB based on its proposal and the stakeholder submissions.  The BCEMB then responded to the BCFIRB follow up document, and stakeholders submitted final comments on the BCEMB’s response.  The BCEMB was invited to respond to the stakeholder comments, however did not submit a final response.

BCFIRB released its decision on the BCEMB Quota Distribution Policy on October 30, 2009. This decision, as well as the BCEMB’s original submissions, BCFIRB’s follow up document, summaries of the stakeholder submissions received by BCFIRB, and related correspondence are all available for viewing via the links below.

BCFIRB’s decision on the BCEMB’s proposed New Producer Program Rules will be posted here and circulated to industry stakeholders as soon as it becomes available.

In addition, in August and October 2009, BCFIRB received applications for a direct allocation under the BCEMB New Producer Program from three farms citing special circumstances arising out of the BCEMB’s new entrant program.  BCFIRB established that it will consider these applications as part of its broader review of the BCEMB’s proposed Quota Distribution Policy and New Producer Program Rules.

The applications and the BCEMB’s response are available for viewing via the links below. BCFIRB’s decisions with respect to the special circumstances applications will also be posted here as soon as they become available.
