Animal Custody Decisions

If you wish to file an appeal, please go directly to Animal Custody Decision Appeals.

BCFIRB hears appeals about animal custody and related cost decisions of the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BCSPCA) under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCAA).

This is a new role for BCFIRB and comes out of changes made to the PCAA on May 14, 2012. Previous to these changes, challenges to BCSPCA decisions were heard by the BC Supreme Court.

BCFIRB’s primary objective under this new role is to ensure the well-being of the animals involved.

If you have questions about BCFIRB’s PCAA appeals role, please contact our office.  You can also download our Appeal Process under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Fact Sheet
